A bride’s emotional reaction to hearing her late grandfather’s voice at the alter is melting hearts around the country.
Bride Brittany Adkins always dreamed her grandfather Rev. Ronald Adkins, would officiate her wedding, but he passed away before her July 22 nuptials in Crab Orchard, West Virginia, the Huffington Post reports.
Little did Brittany know, her sister and soon-to-be husband had a plan to make Ronald Adkins a special part of the ceremony.
Near the end of the ceremony, the preacher officiating the wedding asked everyone to bow their heads in prayer. Then, the familiar voice of Ronald Adkins came on over the loudspeaker. “Pawpaw,” as Brittany called him, pronounced the couple husband and wife.
“When I first heard a voice over the speaker, I knew immediately who it was. My heart shattered, but I felt so much joy and happiness through all the tears,” Brittany told ABC News. “The emotion and chills that filled my body are indescribable. I was weak to my knees, but I felt his presence. A calming came over me and I felt a weight lift off because my dream came true, all thanks to my sister and Jordon.”
Photographer Sarah Irvin captured the touching moment on camera. It was shared by the Love What Matters Facebook page, where it quickly went viral.
Brittany was grateful the grandpa could be a part of the big day.
“Family is very important to me and I could not have imagined anyone else pronouncing us husband and wife besides my papaw,” she said. “All the dreams I had as a little girl came true.”
