A homeless man is being called a hero after rushing into a burning apartment to save two young children’s lives.
Anival Angulo lives on the streets in Las Vegas. According to KSNV, he heard children screaming and spotted smoke coming from an apartment.
First responders weren’t on the scene yet, so Angulo knew he had to act quickly. Without missing a beat, he broke through the apartment’s security door and rushed inside.
“Went to the door and saw the babies, so I jumped the fence, and I pulled on the screen door, and I wrapped up the babies and pulled them out,” Angulo told KSNV.
According to first responders, the kids were in the living room while food was cooking on the stove. The children’s grandfather was looking after them but was in a back bedroom.
“The kids said the stove caught on fire, it got bigger, and they started yelling. The granddad couldn’t get to them because of the fire,” said Tim Szymanski with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue. “It’s obvious if this person hadn’t been there, these children could’ve been burned or may have been killed in the fire.
Angulo said he’s no hero and is just glad the kids are safe.
