RICHMOND, Va. – A high school basketball team in need of equipment finally got the help they deserve.

Coach Brent Butler told WTVR that his team needed basic essentials, like gloves, cleats and bats. The committed coach got so desperate that he took to Facebook to ask the community for donations.

“It’s been really beneficial so far,” said Butler, as donations started to trickle in.

He said he’s seen his team make big strides in recent weeks, but now they need equipment.

So the TV station presented the coach with a generous gift.

“We know you have gotten some things and that helps, but we wanted to help as well,” said WTVR reporter Lane Casadonte. “This is a part of our CBS 6 Gives program. It’s $500. Please take that, and use it as you see fit.”

Butler was completely surprised.

“This is going to be really beneficial… I thought you guys were here for the weather!” laughed Butler.
