A family is thanking an off-duty police officer for saving their 4-year-old daughter as she celebrated her birthday.

Davie’onna was celebrating her birthday at a pool in Panama City on Memorial Day, according to the Today Show.

Corporal Jeff Haire was also spending time with his family at an aquatic center in Panama City when he spotted a man calling for help, holding a limp girl in his arms, according to a post by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

The man said he pulled the girl from the pool, and she may have been underwater for several minutes.

Haire began CPR on the girl and managed to revive her. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she made a full recovery. According to the Today Show, she suffered no brain damage.

“It was a miracle,” said mom Kiara Greene. “I’m just so grateful.”

The sheriff’s office applauded Haire for his quick response.

“Cpl. Haire’s response is an excellent example of the level of training at the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the commitment to serve our deputies have to this community,” Sheriff Tommy Ford said. “I am proud of Cpl. Haire and his quick response to prevent what could have been a tragedy. And very happy for this family who will remember that day as a one for miracles and not heartbreak.”
