A 98-year-old woman named Gladys is celebrating her birthday in style with a colorful photo shoot organized by her granddaughter.

On September 26, Gladys celebrated her 98th birthday with some help from her granddaughter, Shannon Weikle of Bowie, Maryland. Weikle asked friend and photographer Cara Lynn McGilvrey to snap photos of her grandma to commemorate the occasion, PEOPLE reports.

McGilvrey happily agreed.

“When your friend asks if you can do a smash cake session for her spunky grandmother’s 98th birthday, YOU DO IT!” McGilvrey wrote in a now-viral Facebook post featuring some images from the shoot.

Gladys dyed her hair blue for the session and posed with colorful balloons and even a smash cake.

“A lot of my friends are having babies and are either doing newborn photoshoots or smash cakes for their child’s first birthday,” Weikle told PEOPLE.

Weikle said at first, her prim-and-proper grandmother was horrified by her blue hair.

“I came over and I showed her the dye, and we just went to work,” Weikle said. “When she saw herself, she was mortified!”

“Gladys was so fun and such a good sport! She is exactly who I want to be when I grow up. We should all aspire to be more like Gladys: Young at heart,” wrote McGilvrey.
