After 189 days in the hospital, 10 surgeries, including a heart transplant in which several setbacks occurred, 5-year-old Ari Schultz was able to go home today.

A heartwarming video Ari’s family posted to YouTube shows the boy learning Wednesday that he would be going home in just two days. He asks to visit a baseball field, practice basketball and play golf in the backyard.

Ari first caught the internet’s attention after the family posted a tear-inducing video in March of him learning he would get a new heart. Despite the transplant, he went into cardiac arrest on March 22 and was rushed into emergency surgery. He was put on life support, and his family wasn’t sure if he would survive.

He did indeed survive, and today he got to go home.
