The son of Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, was at a congressional baseball practice when a gunman opened fire on lawmakers and staffers early Wednesday morning.

At least five people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., and two Capitol Hill police officers were shot while the Republican congressional baseball practiced in Alexandria, Va. Scalise is in surgery and in stable condition, and the shooter has died from injuries he sustained after being shot by law enforcement.

Barton’s 10-year-old son was taken into a dugout and stuffed under the bench by some who were at the practice, according to Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.
