Doctors are calling this story a miracle.

A 22-month old Pennsylvania boy, Gardell Martin, fell into an icy creek while playing with his brothers outside and drifted downstream on March 11. According to NBC Philadelphia, his 7-year-old brother ran inside to get help after he couldn’t find him.

His mother called 911, assuming that her young son fell into the creek and was swept away. A neighbor finally found the boy a quarter-mile downstream, caught on a tree branch.

An ambulance crew found no pulse, and performed CPR for an hour and 41 minutes straight. When he arrived at the hospital, his body temperature was 77 degrees. A team of doctors worked tirelessly to warm his body. And against all odds, his heart started beating again.

Doctors were stunned that his brain function was normal.

“The stars aligned for this little guy in you know multiple ways,” one doctor told Newswatch 16.
