A baby girl born weighing less than a pound is finally going home after spending months in a Maryland hospital.

Ariana Cruz-Gutierrez was born at 24 weeks at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Maryland on March 9 weighing just 12 ounces, The Capital Gazette reports.

On August 3, she went home for the first time. She now weighs about 4 pounds and is almost 5 months old.

“When the baby was born, we were uncertain of what could happen,” dad Oscar Gutierrez said. “The baby could die, but with God’s help and blessing, and the incredible work of the people here, everything has turned out well.”

“We’re all thrilled Ariana is going home,” Suzanne Rindfleish, Director of the NICU at AAMC told WMAR. “She was a special baby. She’ll always be remembered.”

Ariana will still return to AAMC regularly for physical therapy and checkups.
