A family is celebrating their daughter and their daughter’s organ donor four years after receiving a heart transplant.

Brooklyn Ledesma, 4, of Los Angeles, was born with a congenital heart defect. When she was nine months old, her family waited months for an organ donation, and during that time, doctors gave her a Berlin Heart, KCBS reports. The device supports patients in end-stage heart failure, pumping blood throughout the body.

At 10 months old, Brooklyn and her family got the miracle they were waiting for: an organ donor. Ever since, Brooklyn has been led a fairly normal life.

Earlier this week, Brooklyn’s family marked four years since she received the transplant with a heart-shaped cake, complete with bandages and stitches.

“Yesterday we lived in honor of a little baby who gave our beautiful girl her 4th Heart Anniversary,” her family wrote on the Praying for Brooklyn Facebook page. “This baby gave our Queen B the chance to get to live her First Day of Kindergarten. The milestones that Brooklyn continues to reach are almost impossible to believe that they could never be.”
