Since he was a child, Augustine dreamed of becoming a police officer. The Dallas Police Department decided to make his dream come true by making him “chief of the day.”

The officers visited Augustine, who can’t speak and is confined to his bed because of the progression of his illness.

“This is the reason we became police,” Hall said. “It truly touched each and every one of us.”
