HICKORY, N.C. – A host of NASCAR drivers and their crew members answered a grieving mother’s plea to give her late son a memorable send-off.
Jake Leatherman, 5, was laid to rest Wednesday after losing his battle with leukemia. Before his funeral, his mother, Crystal Leatherman, reached out to NASCAR drivers to ask them a favor, according to a report by NASCAR.com.
Crystal explained that Jake was a big fan of NASCAR, and his favorite cars were the Lowe’s car, the M&M’s USA car and several others.
On the day of Jake’s funeral, racing star Joey Lagano showed up with his wife and several crew members of the Tony Stewart’s team, Kyle Busch’s team, Aric Almirola’s team, Jimmie Johnson’s team and Dale Earnhardy Jr.’s team.
They brought a racing suit for Jake, and helped carry him to his final resting place.
