A kindergartener is getting a lot of praise after sacrificing her birthday presents to help hurricane victims in need.

Ella Russell, 6, usually donates a portion of her birthday money to a cause that’s special to her, WATE reports. This year, she decided to aid hurricane victims. With her mom’s help, she reached out to friends and family on social media for donations.

“Her $10 turned into about $280 and 146 cases of water,” said mom Jennifer Perkins.

Her parents hope Ella’s act of kindness inspires others to keep giving.

“I want the community to remember, yeah, what Ella did was great but let’s continue to fight for these people. It’s fresh in our minds in two weeks, but where are they going to be in 90, 100 days, to a year,” said Perkins.
