A 12-year-old girl is bringing smiles to patients at a children’s hospital, one pair of socks at a time.

Emma Becker, 12, knows first-hand what it’s like to be a kid stuck in a hospital. She has been a patient at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for four years, getting treatment for Neurofibromatosis, WTIC reports. The condition cause tumors in her brain, spinal cord and nerves, and Emma is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

She wanted to make other young patients at the hospital feel a little more comfortable, so she decided to start collecting colorful socks. For her 12th birthday, she asked for donations. Her goal was to collect 1,200 pairs of socks.

“Cause hospitals are cold and I just wanted something so they could feel like home,” she told WTIC.

In the end, she ended up collecting more than 2,300 pairs of socks.

Emma has gotten a lot of attention for her previous drive collections in the past. For her birthday last year, she collected more than 10,000 tubs of Play Doh for kids in children’s hospitals. She also is currently collecting Halloween costumes for the children. More details about Emma’s campaigns can be found here.
