A 6-year-old girl’s voice gave her mom strength when she needed it most.

Caitlin Shorey, 6, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, sang Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” at the National American Miss pageant in California.

“What the judges and 98% of the audience didn’t know was the significance of the song to Caitlin and her mother,” the video’s description reads on¬†YouTube. “Caitlin sang this song for her mom who was diagnosed just 8 months earlier with stage 4 breast cancer.”

Mom Nicole Shorey told Inside Edition that she was overcome with emotion watching her daughter sing on stage.

“Tears,” said Shorey. “It made me very happy, very proud of her.”

At the time of the performance, around Thanksgiving 2017, Shorey was undergoing radiation treatment.

“A brave little girl singing to her even braver mom,” the video’s description continued.

Competing against 20 others, the performance landed Caitlin in fifth place.
