PHOENIX – A little girl is recovering against all odds after falling into a cold pool and nearly drowning last month.

According to KPNX, 2-year-old Joy Loboda fell into a backyard swimming pool in Phoenix, Arizona on Dec. 29. The Tampa, Florida family was visiting relatives in the area when the accident happened. Joy was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

For days, Joy didn’t open her eyes, and doctors were unsure whether or not she’d recover.

According to updates from the family’s Facebook page, Pray for Joy, her recovery has been remarkable. Videos show Joy playing with toys and even laughing for the first time in weeks. Her family share a video of the touching moment online.

Her parents are amazed at her progress.

“In the first week after Joy’s accident I didn’t think I would ever smile again,” mom Kristen Loboda wrote on Facebook.

Her parents hope physical therapy will help Joy progress even further.

“While she is progressing, she needs extensive help with her core, sitting up, and motor skills for eating and walking,” dad Matthew Loboda wrote on Facebook.

The family is asking for donations to help with medical costs. If you would like to donate, click here.
