A grieving widow is thanking her family for providing her with the perfect keepsake to remember her husband.
Footage shared to Facebook show family members gathering around a woman and handing her a gift bag. According to a post shared by the Love What Matters Facebook page, the woman recently lost her husband of 64 years to cancer.
“On the 1st of February, my papaw found out he had lung cancer. So after telling the family, he decided that he wanted to try radiation to slow it down. He did treatment for 2 to 3 weeks and became too weak. He was sent to the hospital on March 2nd and he was supposed to start chemo on the following Monday, which was the 6th, but he passed away on March 5th, with his family surrounding him,” the post read.
Hoping to help their grandmother cope with her grief, the family decided to turn the sweater he always wore on Christmas Eve into a pillow. A patch sewn onto the pillow read, “This is a shirt I used to wear and whenever you hold it know I am there. Love, Bill.”
The woman immediately started weeping when she realized what the gift was.
“Oh thank you so much,” the woman said through sobs. “I’ll cherish it my whole life.”
Her family was more than happy to gift such a special gift to the woman.
“My nanny always tells us to say, ‘I love you’ everyday because you never know when it will be the last time you say, ‘I love you’ to your spouse or your family member,” the Facebook post read.
