A young survivor of the Sutherland Springs, Texas church shooting is asking for some cheer this Christmas.

Ryland Ward, 5, lost his mom and two sisters in the shooting, KSAT reports. He survived, but was left with serious injuries. He’s still recovering from a shattered femur and kidney problems.

“They still haven’t told him yet that his mom and sisters are dead, but I’m sure he’s kind of getting some kind of idea because he’s five,” said Ryland’s grandmother, Sandy Ward.

Doctors hope Ryland will be able to go home in 6-8 weeks. He will be spending Christmas in the hospital.

His family has asked for his supporters to send a Christmas card with a dollar inside to bring Ryland some joy. He also loves looking at pictures from other kids and their pets.

The family says the money will go toward buying Ryland a go-kart for Christmas.
