A police department is bringing smiles to kids by issuing “tickets” for their good deeds.

Officers with the East Liverpool Police Department started handing out citations to kids for good deeds like helping someone cross the street. The citations are coupons for a free ice cream cone or a milkshake at local establishments.

The initiative was started by Patrolman Kelsey Hendrick, who heard about a similar program at another department.

One photo shared by the East Liverpool Police Department on Facebook shows officers awarding a citation to one such good kid.

“Officer Tatgenhorst and K9 Ivo handing out a malt citation for wearing a helmet! Get your bike safety on everybody!!!” the photo’s caption reads.
