A mother who was blinded during the Las Vegas shooting is finally back at home with her two young children.

Chelsea Romo of Riverside County, Calif., was enjoying a girls’ weekend at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire on the crowd of concert-goers. Romo was hit by either a bullet or pieces of metal shrapnel, which damaged her left eye and part of her right eye, KTLA reports. She is now legally blind, though it’s possible that her right eye’s vision could still improve.

On Saturday, she returned to her home for the first time since the shooting to a hero’s welcome.

“Everybody wanted to do something for Chelsea — just to see her and be a part of her,” said Lancie Lara, who organized the homecoming through Facebook. “Just to stand out front of the sidewalk and give her a hero’s welcome.”

A GoFundMe page is raising money to help the family with additional expenses after the accident. If you would like to donate, click here.
