A little boy is safe today thanks to a groom who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Clayton and Brittany Cook of Cambridge, Ontario, tied the knot on Friday and were posing for wedding photos on a park bridge when Clayton spotted a child in distress after falling in the pond below, CTV reports. Before his bride realized what was happening, Clayton jumped into pond to save the boy.

“His face was in the water and he was fighting. Like, he was really fighting,” Clayton told CTV. “Luckily he was only a little guy … and I honestly just sort of hopped him up.”

The boy was OK after the ordeal, and eventually an older sibling arrived. Kids who were playing nearby told Clayton that one of them had pushed the boy into the water.

Wedding photographer Darren Hatt captured the rescue in photos, which quickly went viral after he posted them to his Facebook page.

“At some point, the bride shouted out and then pointed towards the river,” Hatt said. “Just ask quickly as I’d turned around, the groom is already in the river scooping up this little guy by his arm.”

“The bride was extremely proud, he’s definitely a hero,” he added.

The bride Brittany said she’s not at all surprised by her husband’s actions.

“That’s Clay. That’s Clay to me. It’s something he would just instinctively do,” she said.
