A woman is thanking her former high school teacher for inspiring her to graduate high school despite an unexpected pregnancy.

Yvette Luna recently reunited with high school math teacher Juan Antonio Fraga to thank him for giving her the skills she needed to succeed, ABC News reports. Luna explained her parents transferred her to Keys Academy in Harlingen, Texas, after she became pregnant, hoping the smaller teacher-to-student ratio would help her stay focused on graduating despite the unexpected circumstances.

“Keys is not just about economics. It’s about people who are helping people, building up relationships,” said Fraga. “The job sometimes is not that easy because a lot of students might not be initially focused as to what they want to do.”

Yvette ended up graduating and leading a successful life; she now teaches fourth grade at a local elementary school.

“I want to say thank you for always believing in me when things were tough,” said Luna told him during an interview with ABC News.
