You never really know what’s going to happen during Christmas church pageants.
A video shared to Facebook by Tana Benson shows a group of kids acting out the nativity scene as a children’s choir sings “Away in A Manger” in front of their church congregation.
As the choir sings, one of the children playing a sheep becomes restless and decided to pick up baby Jesus, played by a plastic baby doll. The audience erupted into laughs.
The other members of the cast were visibly upset up this impromptu improvisation by the sheep, and the kid playing Mary decided to put an end to it.
Mary, adorably wrapped up in blue robes, got up and grabbed the baby from the sheep’s paws and returned him to the manger.
The sheep yelled in protest, and immediately snatched baby Jesus once again.
Finally, at the end of the song, some adults got involved to settle things down.
Benson, the mother of the sheep, was amused by the scene.
“My little sheep took the baby Jesus, breaking all the rules leaving poor little Mary no choice but to take action!” she wrote on Facebook. “Momma to the rescue tried her best to protect her baby at all costs. Definitely a program I will remember. LOVE these kiddos and my church family! Laughed so hard I cried!”
