WINDSOR, Colo. – The man who saved a 4-year-old girl from a near drowning says she now has a place in his life forever.

Angelo Mondragon was spending a day at the beach with his family at a lake in Windsor, Colorado.

Shortly after wading into the water, Mondragon said he felt something lightly brush against his feet. When he looked down, he saw two little feet floating in the water.

“I saw just the bottom of her feet and then right then at that moment, that became my child. I reached in and I pulled her out like I would any of my babies,” Mondragon told CBS Denver.

The father of three says his instincts immediately kicked in. He scooped the girl up in his arms and rushed her to shore, shouting for help. People rushed over, and the girl soon started breathing.

“She has a place in my heart now,” said Mondragon.
