At the age of 92, she’s the oldest person to finish a marathon. Harriette Thompson may not be the fastest runner, but she is the toughest.
She finished the rock and roll marathon in San Diego this weekend – setting a world record. This isn’t her first race – she says she’s completed this same marathon 15 times before.
“I have such lofty ideas. Really lofty. I keep wondering if I’m going to be able to finish this,” said Thompson.
It’s the only one she runs, because it raises money for blood cancer research and patient services. Thompson had cancer twice. Her husband died of cancer in January. She finished the 26.2 miles in 7 hours 24 minutes and 36 seconds. Way to go!
