The creators of ‘Super Troopers’ and ‘Super Troopers 2’ say they cannot thank their fans enough.

16 years ago the first ‘Super Troopers’ landed in theaters. It brought in a modest number (about $19 million) but went on to find a massive audience on video and DVD. In fact, according to a HuffPost article by director Jay Chandrasekhar, the movie went on to gross somewhere between 65 million to 80 million dollars on DVD and video. That makes it one of the most successful independent films of all time.

But flash forward to now and no studio was willing to back the 5 original writers (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske)  to create ‘Super Troopers 2.”  Finally, Fox said it would distribute the movie, but they would have to come up with the money.

The guys told Hot Topics host Heather Catlin, they turned it over to the fans. They turned to Indiegogo to start a crowdfunding campaign. Their goal, $2 million.

The crowdfunding campaign was a massive success. They hit the $2 million mark in just one day. They went on to collect about $5 million total for the project.
