A family was unaware that a babysitter who passed a background check was abusing their 7-month-old son until their German Shepard mix alerted them.

According to ABC News, The South Carolina family’s normally friendly and docile German Shepard mix would become hostile around their babysitter Alexis Khan, 22. They said he would start growling, the hair on the back on his neck would stand up, and he would stand between the baby sitter and their son, Finn Jordan.

Finn’s parents placed an iPhone under a couch and set it to audio record while Khan was babysitting. On the recording, Khan can be heard cursing at the baby. Finn can be heard crying, followed by noises that sound like slapping.

Authorities were alerted, and Khan pleaded guild to assault and battery.
