LEESBURG, Fla. – People around the country are praising a teenager for going above and beyond to show respect for his country.

Arek Trenholm, 16, was born with spina bifida. The teen has gone viral after his uncle shared a photo of him using his arms to stand up as the American flag passed by.

The moment happened as the junior ROTC marched past him during a high school homecoming parade in Leesburg, Florida.

“My sister just called out, ‘He’s standing!’ And instantly I knew what he was doing,” Arek’s uncle, Myron Leggett, told ABC News. “He didn’t have to do that. He has an excuse to stay seated… I admire for that and I’m very proud of him.”

Leggett says he hopes other people are as inspired by the moment as he was.

“Take a lesson!” Leggett wrote on Facebook.

People are now praising him for the respect he showed.
