A video featuring blind people describing beauty is going viral.
In a video shared to YouTube by WatchCut Video, four blind people explain how they judge whether a person in beautiful.
Some took the exercise literally, saying they judge physical beauty harshly.
“I think I’m pretty shallow, just like anyone else,” said one participant. “And I’m OK with that. I don’t want to be a saintly person just because blindness has turned me into a saint. That’s a lie.”
Others explained that they judge beauty through other senses.
“It’s little things. It’s a sound, a scent or a touch and it all builds into this generalized thing,” said another participant.
“I don’t look at is as visual beauty. I receive it as what they project to me. Their heart,” said another participant.
The video concludes on this touching note from one participant: “I don’t think vision plays that big of a role in beauty. I think it’s the whole experience.”
