SUFFOLK, Va. – A husband had the perfect 20th wedding anniversary gift for his wife this year: a new kidney.
For the past two years, Cindy Chafian of Suffolk, Virginia has been undergoing dialysis treatments. According to WTKR, she was diagnosed with kidney disease in her 20s.
Over the past few years, her health has been deteriorating.
“I would say if I was able to get dinner on the table for my family that was a good day,” Chafian told WTKR.
Recently, her husband, Scott, got tested to see if he could be a donor for his wife. As luck would have it, he was a perfect match.
On Jan. 25, the two underwent the transplant surgery.
“Just the difference already, just the light she’s got back in her eyes. I don’t even have words for it,” said Scott.
Cindy says she feels she now has a new lease on life.
“There’s nothing more valuable than life. And being able to live it. Not exist, to live. And I really feel like that’s what my future is now,” said Cindy.
The couple started a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses. If you would like to donate, click here.
