WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the outside, Destyni Tyree seems to be living a lucky life. At just 16 years old, she was voted prom queen, graduated with a 4.0 GPA and earned a scholarship to college.

But things aren’t so easy for Tyree. She and her family lives in a homeless shelter. Tyree, her mother and her sister moved out of their D.C.-area home when her mother lost her job.

Tyree took summer classes, online courses and attended Saturday school to graduate two years early. She accomplished all that while holding down a job.

According to WRC-TV, Tyree earned multiple awards, including the Principal’s Award for Academics and the Leadership Award.

Tyree will be attending Potomac State University in West Virginia in the fall.

Though she was awarded a scholarship, she still needs money to cover books and other expenses. She started a GoFundMe page to help.
