A high school teacher and bride-to-be is thanking her wedding guests for sending “wedding gifts” that will help her homeless students feel just a little bit more comfortable.

Rickee Stewart of West Jordan, Utah is getting married next month. Instead of asking her wedding guests for gifts for herself, she’s asking for gifts to help her students. She told KSL-TV more than 100 students at Copper Hills High School are homeless.

“I registered for tennis shoes and Converse and backpacks and winter coats for the homeless kids at our school,” she said.

The donations came in so generously that Stewart quickly reached her goal. Soon, people who weren’t even guests started providing coats, tents and sleeping bags for kids in need across the Jordan School District.

“My hope is that we get to not only have this amazing wedding and start our lives together but that we are able to put some warmth on all of those kids,” said Stewart.
