BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Twelve-year-old Chris Ward is legally blind, but thanks to a unique pair of glasses, he saw the world clearly for the very first time.

Ward is a fifth-grade student. He does his writing assignments with a braille type writer and his math homework with an abacus.

“It’s been an inspiration to me because he’s never complained about it,” his mother, Marquita Hackley, told WDBJ.

Chris recently took a trip to Washington D.C. from his Viriginia home to try on a new pair of glasses called eSight.

“When I say my mom for the first time, she was pretty,” said Chris.

His mom says their insurance won’t cover the $15,000 glasses, even though he would no long be considered legally blind with the glasses.
