Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary across the pond.
Five years ago today, Kate Middleton got her prince, becoming Her Royal Highness Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. They tied the knot on April 29, 2011 at West Minster Abbey, with millions watching all around the world.
While it’s been only five years of marriage, Prince William and Kate have been together for 13 years.
Kate was raised in the small English town of Bucklebury by her entrepreneur parents. When she left the nest after high school, she attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where the met Prince William.
She first started to get attention as one of Prince William’s roommates in a four-person apartment during college.
By 2002, it was clear the pair were an item. Photographers snapped a photo of them kissing during a ski trip on break from school.
It wasn’t always rainbows and butterflies for the couple. The two spit several times before, but this one seemed serious. They discussed the split publicly.
But they couldn’t stay away from each other. Just two months later, they were back together and more serious than ever.
In 2010, Prince William asked Kate to be his princess, giving her his mother’s ring. He carried the gem all the way to Africa, where he proposed to her in a tiny hut in Kenya.
Fast forward six years, and the couple now has two beautiful children, Prince George (the future king) and Princess Charlotte.
Congratulations to the couple on five years, and cheers to many more in the future!
