SUMMIT COUNTY, Tx. – Sophia Feller spends a lot of her time trying to make others smile, even though she’s seen her fair share of heartbreak in her young life.

“My dad was there one day and gone the next,” 9-year-old Sophia told KUSA.

When she was just 5, Sophia’s father, Nicholas Feller, was hit and killed by a truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel.

In the days, following his death, Sophia recalled memories of her dad, and her mom wrote them down.

“She didn’t want to forget anything, so she started writing them down, or having me do it because she couldn’t write yet,” said Marie.

Now, Sophia writes not just to remember her dad, but to help other kids coping with the loss of a loved one.

“It helps me think about my dad and help others at the same time,” said Sophia.

She now has a website and non-profit group called “Heaven Sent It” where people can read Sophia’s story and learn now to deal with loss.

“I want them to be able to smile and not be sad for a long time like I was,” Sophia said.
