VALHALLA, N.Y. – A set of twin girls are beginning a new life after doctors successfully separated them in a 2-day-long surgery.
Ballanie and Bellenie were born connected at the base of their spines in the Dominican Republic. They were separated during a procedure that took 21 hours to complete at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, New York.
The 11-month-old girls will undergo physical therapy to help them adjust to the big change. Doctors say their prognosis for the future is bright.
