Most kids have a long list of toys they ask for on their birthday, but one 6-year-old is asking for supplies to help homeless people in her community in lieu of gifts.

Oliva Ellsworth of Tulsa, Okla., celebrated her sixth birthday earlier this month. Rather than bringing gifts for Olivia, her guests brought gifts like snacks, socks and underwear to help stock her local homeless shelter.

Olivia’s parents told KJRH that they started the family tradition on her first birthday.

“She didn’t really have much input then, but as she gets older, she can provide input on who she gets to donate to and what they should bring,” mom Whitney Ellsworth said.

Olivia’s previous birthday supported organizations including the¬†Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Emergency Infant Services and the Tulsa SPCA.
