NEW ORLEANS – Two young brothers are inspiring their community by packing bagged lunches for homeless people and sharing inspiring words with them.
Derrell Martin, 10, and his brother Kyllon, 9, were heartbroken when they noticed the growing rate of homelessness in their New Orleans neighborhood.
Their mother told Inside Edition that her sons always had giving spirits.
“I didn’t have any cash, but Kyllon had a taco and Derrell handed it to a man that was asking for money,” mom Kristy Lewis-Martin told Inside Edition. “He was so excited that he danced and showed everyone that he had the taco.”
The boys started a projected called “The Helping Lunchbox” where they help feed the hungry and give them inspirational messages.
With help from family, friends and the non-profit B.O.S.S. Youth Outreach, the boys have helped feed more than 200 homeless people.
“Some were happy, some were crying,” said Derrell.
The boys hope their story inspires others to lend a helping hand to those in need.
