FRESNO, Calif. – People are flocking to a California woman’s home to see it for themselves: a statue of the Virgin Mary that suddenly started to weep after tragedy struck.

Scroll down for video.

Maria Cardenas noticed her statue appeared to cry just over a year ago, when her cousin, Jessie Lopez, was murdered.

Cardenas told KFSN she believes the statue’s tears are a miracle. They well up in the statue’s right eye, drip down to her chin, and fall.

KSFN reports the tears are oily and smell like roses. Cardenas collects them in a glass and shares them with people who come to see the statue.

The statute was a Mother’s Day gift about 10 years ago.

She says anyone who wishes to see the statue for themselves are welcome to come to her home.
