SEATTLE – When a woman spotted a homeless family begging on the side of the road in Seattle, she didn’t hesitate to do what she could to help.

Shannon Lyons’ neighbor told her she spotted two parents and their 11 and 3-year-old daughters begging. Lyons immediately started gathering supplies for the family.

“I told my 16-year-old daughter to get old clothing that she has. I got canned food from my house,” Lyons told Inside Edition.

When she finally found the homeless family, she couldn’t believe what she saw.

“Their 3-year-old daughter had no shoes on her feet. She was playing on the side of the busy street. The father was in a wheelchair and they were begging for a hotel room for the night,” said Lyons. “Respectfully I couldn’t throw a can of food at them and say, ‘Have a good night,'” said Lyons.

The family was living off Dave’s disability checks, and they couldn’t find a shelter that could take the whole family in. The 3-year-old girl told Lyons that she was “cold and hungry.”

Heartbroken and desperate to help, Lyons bought them two motel rooms for three nights. And she didn’t stop there.

When she got home, she launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the struggling family. So far it has raised more than $10,000.

The money will go towards finding a more permanent housing solution for the family. If you would like to donate, click here.

The family says they’re grateful for all the help they’ve gotten.

“These people have been such a blessing. My daughters have relaxed a whole lot,” said Dave.
