BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Some Birmingham police officers not not happy with some calls they were getting from annoyed neighbors about some kids playing soccer in a parking lot.
So the officers decided to join the game.
“We get calls repeatedly on these guys playing and there’s one person who continually calls and kind of wants us to tell them to come inside,” Birmingham police officer Jordan Burke told WBCR. “I’m not going to do that. Ethically, I can’t tell children to stop playing.”
For the past few days, Officer Burke and some of his colleagues have been playing soccer with the kids in the open field, and the kids are loving it.
“It’s really cool because they play with us and talk to us about being good,” 10-year-old Alejendro Martinez said.
A video posted by Burke on his Facebook page shows the officers losing to the group of kids.
“That, my friends, is community policing at its finest: getting our butts handed to us by a group of little kids playing soccer,” Burke said in the video.
