A Minnesota mother is a happy woman, after her son surprised her by coming home earlier than she expected.
The touching reunion was captured on camera and shared by Rasmussen College on Facebook. The video shows 50-year-old Margaret Pearson at her nursing school graduation in Minnesota.
She was disappointed when her son, Army Sgt. Dustin Pearson, told her he wasn’t going to make it. He spent a year deployed in Kuwait, and told his mother that he had to stay back in Texas for a week after returning to the United States.
“He told me that he had some hearing problems and he had to see a doctor in Texas before he could come home and he wouldn’t be home until this weekend,” Margaret told ABC News. “I was very disappointed because my entire family was going to be there expect him.”
Dustin surprised his mom by showing up for her pinning ceremony. Margaret immediately burst into tears.
She said he has missed a lot of milestones, so she’s glad to have him back home.
“My 50th birthday came and went, Christmas came and went, his son’s first birthday came and went, you can’t really make up for those,” Margaret said. “But we can make the most out of what we have now.”
