BURLINGAME, Calif. – Kids get sick. It happens, and most parents can deal with it with no problems.

But one California dad got more than he could handle while taking care of his son, Declan.

Ben Pattersen’s son, Declan, vomited in the back seat while he was driving. But that was just the beginning of the unfolding nightmare.

According to a series of texts he sent to his wife, after pulling over to take care of the mess, the smell overwelmed Pattersen, causing him to vomit, too.

He tries valiantly to clean up the mess, but can’t stop himself from getting sick every time. Finally, someone notices his struggle.

“I’m puking on some lady’s lawn in Burlingame and she comes out to ask me if I’m drunk while driving with the kids,” Pattersen wrote in his text. “I’m trying to explain to her that I’m a sympathetic vomiter and can’t handle the smell.”

He said the woman eventually called the cops, who made Pattersen take a breathalyzer test. Finally he makes it back home by driving with the windows down and with his shirt over his face.

Overall, we think he handled it like a champ.
