This is a friendship that began just after WWI.

On Saturday, Bernice Grimes Underwood, Gladys Ware Butler and Ruth Hammett celebrated 100 years of life at Zion Baptist Church in Washington D.C. They all turn 100 years old in June or July.

Their mayor, their congresswoman, their children, their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren, their great-great grandchildren and even Oprah wished them a happy birthday, according to the Washington Post.

A fourth best friend, Leona Barnes, died in May just before her 100th birthday. A portrait of her sat in the pew next to the friends during their birthday celebration.

The four women share a lifetime of memories. They had children around the same time, and mourned the death of their husbands and elderly children.

The best friends see each other every Sunday when they attend church, and talk on the phone everyday.
