BRANDON, Fla. – A 10-year-old boy is getting a lot of attention after growing his hair out for two years to help a friend.

Tyler Boone, 10, wanted to do something special for his family friend, Gabby Ruiz, 12, who has Alopecia, a hair loss disorder.

For two years, Tyler has been growing his hair so he could donate it to Gabby to wear as a wig. He said he has been mistaken for a girl many times.

“I’m used to it now,” Tyler told WFST.

Last week, Tyler and Gabby visited a Brandon, Florida mall where they had their photo taken, and Gabby finally cut off 12 inches of Tyler’s hair.

The hair will be sent to the non-profit Children with Hair Loss to be made into a wig for Gabby.

“I just want to make her happy,” said Tyler.
