Celebrities sitting in the theater at the Academy Awards Sunday night were baffled by the surprise twist at the end of the show.

“Moonlight” was announced as Best Picture halfway through the thank-you speeches after Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced “La La Land” as the winner.

“The stage manager was standing right in front of me saying, ‘No, no, no, no. That’s not the movie,'” Salma Hayek told Entertainment Tonight.

Others enjoyed the Hollywood-worthy surprise ending.

“Oh my goodness. I have to say it was a little bit exciting,” said Viola Davis.

Entertainment Tonight host Kevin Fraizer explained to Hot Topics how the mix-up happened.

“Here’s what you have to understand. There are two copies of each and every envelope — one on the left side of the stage, one on the right side of the stage. Those have the winners in them. Somehow, Warren Beatty got the envelope from actress in a leading role… It was something else.”
