NEW YORK – Katie Couric took an enormous pay cut so save lower level jobs at CBS News, according to an agent.
Page Six reports in Couric’s third year at CBS News, impending budget cuts would have caused significant layoffs of various producers, both senior and junior.
Agent Alan Berger told Page Six that Couric voluntarily offered to cut her salary by $1 million, on the agreement that it would save some of those jobs.
As part of the agreement, Couric did not want any public or private acknowledgement of the gesture.
Couric was at CBS News from 2006-2011. She currently serves as Yahoo! Global News Anchor.
