Priyanka Chopra thinks our conversation about diversity in Hollywood needs to change.
“We keep talking about diversity, but it should be our normal,” Chopra told Hot Topics this week.
Chopra stars in ABC’s “Quantico,” which is currently in its second season. She applauds the network for celebrating diversity on a number of its primetime shows.
“Kudos to ABC for creating a sense of normalcy on television,” said Chopra, “because if you look around you, that’s what the world looks like. So when we sit here and talk about diversity we should actually be questioning the fact that why don’t we have more of it.”
Chopra grew up in India and the U.S. before coming Miss World as a teenager. She then went on become an internationally acclaimed actress in Bollywood movies before starring in “Quantico.”
“I’m very excited with ‘Quantico’ being one of the first few shows which actually embraces all kinds of diversity, but not because it’s diverse, but because the character that have been created and the people that are playing it just actually fit the part really well. I think it’s really progressive,” said Chopra.
You can catch Priyanka Chopra and Blair Underwood in “Quantico” Monday nights at 10 p.m. eastern on ABC.
