KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A fast food worker says a customer became her ‘guardian angel’ after going above and beyond to help her fulfill her dreams of becoming a nurse.

Shajuana Mays works at a Popeye’s restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri. One evening a man named Donald Carter pulled up at the drive-thru and the two chatted as his food was prepared.

Don learned Shajuana had dreams of going to nursing school. When he got home, he set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help her and within a couple of days, he raised more than $4,600.

He captured the moment he shared the good news with Shajuana on Facebook Live.

“It isn’t about the money that we raised,” Carter said when presenting her with the money. “It’s about a community supporting somebody in our community that wants that wants to do better, wants to step up.”

Shajuana was touched by the gesture.

“What he did for me, I can’t wait to be able to get on my feet good enough, so I can do it for somebody else,” Shajuana told WDAF-TV.

Don said he’s proud to have been a part of something that brought happiness not just to Shajuana, but everyone who contributed to her nursing school fund.

“It just shows how powerful it is when people collectively decide to do something like this,” Don told the Kansas City Star.
