SANFORD, Fla. – An Indiana University police officer is getting a lot of praise today for saving a 3-year-old girl’s life on his wedding day.

Officer John O’Rourke was in Sanford, Florida for his wedding day on March 28. The morning of his wedding, he stopped by a donut shop to pick up some breakfast when a commotion broke out in the middle of the dining area, according to a Facebook post by the Indiana University Police Department.

He realized that a little girl had suffered a seizure, and restaurant patrons were gathering around her. O’Rourke immediately sprang into action, ordering someone to call 911 as he performed chest compressions and rescue breathing which brought the little girl back to consciousness.

Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards.

“I just sat in my car for about 20 minutes processing everything,” O’Rourke recalled.

Later that say O’Rourke married his bride, Virginia and had a good story to tell at the reception.

“It had to be a donut shop,” said O’Rourke. “You can’t make this up.”
